The Knights of Columbus Council #13118 Soup Kitchen Volunteer Events

Brighten LivesIn December of 2013 the Knights of Columbus Council #13118 join the Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc. (BPHI) in their efforts to address homelessness. Our council joined as volunteers helping to serve their residents dinner while bringing smiles to their faces and providing some relief to the staff by helping them with the serving duties. The volunteer efforts started as once a month event and then grew to a twice a month commitment and now we are expanding our volunteers days to three days a month. The Council volunteer events are on the 2nd Thursday of the month, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and on the 4th Monday of every month. Whenever possible the council also provides a dessert cake for the residents to enjoy.

This year our council will also be sponsoring an lasagna dinner for the BPHI residents on Thursday, August 13th.

The Knights of Columbus  designated volunteer events are open to Council Members Only as its purpose is to strengthen our bonds as Brother Knights in service to others while reinforcing our first degree principle of Charity. It has been a vehicle for unity, compassion, and service as we were thought by our Lord Jesus Christ. In the future we may expand to have a Day or Two within every six (6) month period where our Knights can Volunteer with their Wives or Young Adult Children over the age of sixteen (16). Participation in the Soup Kitchen is based on the prior submission of an individual application, reading and understanding of the BPHI guidelines, and final acceptance of the application by BPHI.

The council volunteer schedule is released every six (6) months as follows: in late December for the period of January-June and in late June for the period of July-December. The number of volunteer slots per event is a maximum of five (5) and volunteer enrollment is based on a first come first served basis. A call for volunteers email will be sent out in late December and late June.

We thank all of our members that have volunteered to date and hope that you will continue to volunteer moving forward. To all of our Council members that have not had the opportunity to volunteer we encourage you to do so as you will not regret your participation. We hope that you will join us soon in doing the Lord’s work.

Check the Event Calendar to see the next upcoming date. Contact Jose Vazquez to check availability so that you can join us as a Volunteer for our Soup Kitchen events!
